Scholarship Fund Receives Major Year-End Boost

$90,000 Contributed in the Last Days of the 2026 Fiscal Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Alexandria, Virginia A wave of generosity in the final days of Hopkins House’s 2026 fiscal year, which ended on June 30, brought more than $90,000 in charitable contributions from generous donors, providing a significant boost to the Hopkins House Scholarship Fund and helping ensure that Preschool Young Scholars from financially stressed families continue to have access to the organization’s high-quality early childhood education.

Contributors included the Alexandria Rotary Club, Cynthia and Leonard Glassman, the Mars Foundation, Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI), the Guild Members of the Northern Virginia Urban League, and an anonymous donor.

Among the year-end gifts was a $5,000 contribution from the Guild Members of the Northern Virginia Urban League. Guild representatives Isabel Crocker, Darhyl Jasper, and Denise Brown visited Hopkins House’s Helen Day Preschool Academy in the City of Alexandria to personally present the donation to J. Glenn Hopkins, President and CEO of Hopkins House, and Dr. Justin Thomas, Principal of the Helen Day Preschool Academy.

“These generous contributions reflect the community’s belief that every child deserves access to a strong educational foundation, such as that provided here at Hopkins House, regardless of the family’s financial circumstances,” said J. Glenn Hopkins. “The Hopkins House Scholarship Fund helps remove barriers to opportunity by ensuring that our Preschool Academy Young Scholars can benefit from the nurturing, high-quality early learning experiences that prepare them for success in school and in life. We are deeply grateful to each of these donors for their investment in this community’s children and families.”

The Scholarship Fund provides tuition assistance to families experiencing financial hardship, helping them maintain access to Hopkins House’s nationally accredited early childhood education program while navigating challenges such as job loss, reduced work hours, housing instability, unexpected expenses, and other financial pressures. In recent months, the Fund has become an increasingly important resource for families affected by federal workforce reductions and related economic uncertainty across the region.

Tuition Assistance Can Be Life-Changing For Families

“Tuition assistance can be life-changing for families facing financial uncertainty,” said Dr. Justin Thomas, Principal of the Helen Day Preschool Academy. “In recent months, we have seen many families in our community affected by federal job cuts, reductions in work hours, and broader economic challenges. When parents know their children are in a safe and supportive learning environment, it provides peace of mind and allows families to focus on rebuilding financial stability and planning for the future.”

Supported entirely by donations from community members, local businesses and faith institutions, and foundations, over the past decade, the Hopkins House Scholarship Fund has provided more than $1.29 million in tuition assistance and related educational support to hundreds of children, helping ensure that financial challenges do not prevent young learners from receiving the benefits of a high-quality preschool education.

Founded in 1939, Hopkins House is one of Northern Virginia’s oldest nonprofit organizations dedicated to strengthening children, families, and communities through high-quality early childhood education, workforce development, and family support services. Through its Preschool Academy and Early Childhood Learning Institute (ECLI), Hopkins House helps children and families build pathways toward educational success and economic mobility.
