SunTrust Bank donated $25,000 to Hopkins House to help low-income working and military families with children enrolled at the Hopkins House Preschool Academy afford the cost of safe, quality child care and meet basic household needs.

The gift was announced by Muriel Garr, Vice President and Regional Community Development Manager, to the Hopkins House Community Stakeholders at their annual meeting this past June. "Success in later life begins with quality preschool," Garr said to the Stakeholders.  "And SunTrust is pleased to help Hopkins House prepare the next generation of achievers."

This gift places SunTrust among the largest donors to the Hopkins House Children's Scholarship Fund.  Last year, through the support of donors, Hopkins House was able to provide 165 preschool scholarships totaling over $359,000.

Given the rising cost of child care in the region and heightened awareness among parents about the importance of quality preschool to their children’s academic achievement in school and life, the need for scholarships and other forms of financial aid among families at Hopkins House has grown dramatically in recent years and continues to grow.

"We are very grateful to SunTrust for this terrific gift," said President J. Glenn Hopkins in accepting the gift.  "SunTrust is a very community minded banking institution with a very strong commitment to helping families prosper."
