Preschool Academy

If you are looking for a nurturing and engaging learning experience for your child (age 6 weeks to 5 years old), in an inclusive, socio-economically diverse environment, with well-trained and highly qualified educators who focus on the cognitive, behavioral, social, and emotional skills necessary for achievement in school and success in life, the Hopkins House Preschool Academy is for you.

The Academy is licensed by the Virginia Department of Education, accredited by the National Council for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and open to the public, regardless of residency or income.

A nutritious breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack are provided daily, along with outdoor physical activity, field trips, and individual creative play time.

The Academy uses The Creative Curriculum, and the faculty is composed of highly skilled, college-educated, experienced early care and education professionals.


Helen Day Preschool Academy

Opened in 1939, the Academy serves up to 75 children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.

The Academy is housed in a warm, welcoming community building in historic Old Town Alexandria.

The Academy is located across the street from the Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club, just a few blocks from the Braddock Metro Station and around the corner from Helen Miller/Bernard Hunter Park (named in memory of Hopkins House alumni) and Jefferson-Houston Elementary School.


James L. & Juliette McNeil Preschool Academy

FAIRFAX COUNTY CAMPUS

Opened in 1988, the Academy serves up to 125 children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.

The Academy is housed in a modern, state-of-the-art building, sits on a 3-acre campus with lots of grass and outdoor space for running and fun, and has a state-of-the-art children’s playground built by Monumental Sports & Entertainment (owners of the Wizards, Capitals, Mystics, and Capital City Go Go sports teams) and KABOOM! 

The Academy is located in the Mt. Vernon community on Richmond Highway north of Ft. Belvoir U.S. Army base and a few blocks south of the Fairfax County Gerry Hyland Government Center.

Buying Student Uniform
To hold down the cost of clothing for fast-growing bodies, and for their safety, all Preschool Academy Young Scholars — except infants — are required to wear the easily identifiable official Academy uniform, which may be purchased online by clicking here: Buy Academy Uniform

Academy Parents’ Council
Engagement in the early care and education of your Preschool Academy Young Scholar is encouraged and supported through your active participation in the Preschool Academy Parents’ Council

Help Paying Academy Tuition
Government childcare subsidies and military fee assistance are warmly accepted, and limited term scholarships are available for families in need.
