Preschool Academy Principal Stepping Down

Hopkins House announced today that Ms. Dawn Erausquin is stepping down as Principal of its Helen Day Preschool Academy in Alexandria City. She is leaving to accept a job with Alexandria’s Head Start Program. Her last day will be December 22.
Hopkins House President J. Glenn Hopkins promised a smooth transition to a new principal with several temporary management appointments. These interim appointments will start on December 27 (Hopkins House is closed for Christmas on December 23 & 26) and continue while the principal search is underway:
- Michelle Feh will serve as Interim Principal. Ms. Feh is currently the academy's Assistant Principal, a position she assumed this past summer after having served as Pre-K Teacher and Master Teacher at the academy.
- Deborah Beckson (formerly Okyere) will serve as Interim Assistant Principal. Ms. Beckson is currently Assistant Principal at the James L. & Juliette McNeil Preschool Academy in Fairfax County. In addition to her extensive management experience and training in the field (she has a Master’s degree in Educational Management), Ms. Beckson is familiar to the staff at the Helen Day Preschool Academy and knowledgeable about Hopkins House policies and practices.
"The combination of these two professionals, working together, will provide the necessary supports to staff and students to ensure a seamless transition to a new administration", said Hopkins in announcing the interim appointments. The search for a new principal will begin immediately and is expected to take less than 45 days.
Hopkins House officials are working closely with the academy
Parents Council to help identify a new academy administrator. A
search committee, comprised of academy staff, parents of students, and trustees, was appointed to conduct the search. Parents Council President
Daniel Wilson will head the committee.
