Alexandria, VA — Hopkins House’s Helen Day Preschool Academy families were the grateful recipients of a generous Thanksgiving donation from the Lambda Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, fraternity members arrived bearing 20 Thanksgiving food baskets, each filled with a turkey and other ingredients needed for a warm and complete holiday meal.
Johnny Sidbury, representing the fraternity, emphasized that this act of service is part of an annual tradition spanning the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region.
“Our chapter does community service during Thanksgiving and Christmas every year because we recognize that many families need assistance during this time of celebration,” Sidbury said. “We’re honored to support Hopkins House families in this meaningful way.”
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity has a long and distinguished history of philanthropy, mentorship, and community uplift. Their mission centers on empowering disenfranchised communities through programs such as food distributions, The Fatherhood Initiative & Manhood 101, back-to-school supply drives, and year-round support for families and youth.
For the families at the Helen Day Preschool Academy, the fraternity’s generosity made an immediate and heartfelt impact. “This food basket was truly a blessing,” said one mother who received a basket. “It helps make our Thanksgiving meal complete, and I’m so grateful for the kindness shown to my family.”
This financial support is especially meaningful at this moment, as many Hopkins House families are experiencing significant financial stress due to the rising cost of childcare driven by tariff-related inflation, recent job layoffs and staff reductions, and the lingering effects of the 43-day federal shutdown.
