The Hopkins House Fund, the newly established, quasi-independent office within Hopkins House to oversee and manage the organization’s fundraising, held its first board meeting earlier this month.
Philanthropist and former business executive Mark Moore (pictured above) chairs The Fund board, which currently includes Muriel Garr, Vice President of SunTrust Bank, J. Glenn Hopkins, President and CEO of Hopkins House, and Julie Jakopic, Founder and CEO of iLead Strategies, Inc. Additional members will be added in coming months.
The board approved job descriptions for board members, a meeting calendar, and a major special event called "Hopkins House Week" planned for the fall. The board also approved an ambitious fundraising goal of $1 million.
"The goal of our fundraising for the foreseeable future is to help Hopkins House secure the support it needs to sustain and grow its programs and services for the community’s children, youth, and families," said Moore.
"We will raise money for scholarships to help children of low-resourced working and military families that attend the Hopkins House Preschool Academy; money to enhance the compensation and training of our preschool academy faculty and staff; and, money to buy books and supplies for the Hopkins House Early Childhood Learning Institute. We also plan to build a rainy day fund to help Hopkins House continue its programs and services, uninterrupted during economic downturns."
