Alexandria, VA — Deborah Okyere, Principal of the Hopkins House – James L. & Juliette McNeil Preschool Academy, announced today that she is expecting her third child and will step down as Academy Principal on June 2, 2025, to focus on her growing family.
Ms. Okyere has been an invaluable member of the Hopkins House team since 2010 and has served as Principal of McNeil Preschool Academy since 2018. Throughout her tenure, she has led with passion and dedication, playing a pivotal role in shaping the Academy into the exceptional learning environment it is today.
“Deborah has been a remarkable leader, and her impact on the Academy and the children we serve cannot be overstated,” said J. Glenn Hopkins, President of Hopkins House. “Her contributions to the organization, including achieving reaccreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), have been instrumental in making the Preschool Academy a leading institution in early childhood education. We are grateful for all that she has accomplished and look forward to her continued influence in her new role.”
Starting May 2, Ms. Okyere will begin maternity leave, marking a new chapter in her life as she prepares for the arrival of her third child. Upon her return, she will transition into a new role at Hopkins House as Assistant Director & Program Compliance Officer at the Early Childhood Learning Institute (ECLI). In this capacity, Ms. Okyere will provide administrative support to the ECLI, ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements, and oversee program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
A search committee, led by Parents Council President Claire Majors, has been formed to identify a new Principal for the James L. & Juliette McNeil Preschool Academy.
