Several current and former Hopkins House trustees are running for political office in Virginia this year. Current Trustee and Board Chair-Elect
Julie Jakopic is seeking election to the Virginia House of Delegates to fill the seat vacated by Delegate Rob Krupika. Current Trustee
Charniele Herring is seeking re-election to the House of Delegates. Current Trustee
Justin Wilson is seeking re-election to the Alexandria City Council. And, former trustees
Bill Euille and
Kerry Donley are competing for Mayor of Alexandria.
"As an institution, Hopkins House does not endorse political candidates," said J. Glenn Hopkins, President of Hopkins House. "However, I can personally tell you that Hopkins House trustees who have been elected to public office in the past have been strong, knowledgeable, and consistent voices regarding the issues we care about passionately: Affordable, high-quality early childhood education, secondary and post-secondary education, job training, and support for families."
"They have leveraged the firsthand knowledge gained through their service as Hopkins House trustees into effective and worthwhile public policy. They know well the issues affecting children, youths, and families in this community; and, they have a very good sense of how to address these issues. I hope voters recognize the important role knowledge and firsthand experience plays in wise and thoughtful governance."
