Alexandria, VA — The Hopkins House Board of Trustees is proud to announce that Alexis Montgomery, a 2011 graduate of the James L. & Juliette McNeil Preschool Academy, has been awarded the 2025 Johnson+Jasper College Scholarship. Alexis is currently a student at Hampton University, where she is pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education and holds an impressive 3.53 GPA.
Established in 2020 in memory of longtime Trustees Clarence A. Johnson and Willard O. Jasper, the Johnson+Jasper College Scholarship honors their enduring legacy of championing higher education and encouraging young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), or early childhood education. Each year, two need-based $2,500 scholarships are awarded to graduates of the Hopkins House Preschool Academy who are either high school juniors planning to enter college in the following year or currently enrolled college students.
Reflecting on her college journey, Alexis shared: “It was very hard adjusting to being away from home. I spoke to my mom every day, and she reminded me that the only thing constant in life is change. My biggest academic accomplishments so far have been making the Dean’s List in my first semester and earning honor roll at midterms in my second semester!”

Glenn Hopkins. “Her journey from Hopkins House Preschool Young Scholar to future early childhood educator is a testament to the power of perseverance, family support, and access to opportunity.”
