Federal funding for the construction of a Hopkins House location in the Samuel Madden Homes community in Old Town, Alexandria, has advanced, thanks to the efforts of Virginia Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine. They successfully advocated for the inclusion of $2 million in funding for Hopkins House in the Senate Appropriations Committee’s draft government funding bills. While final approval of the funding bills may not occur before the November elections, the committee’s support represents significant progress.
Hopkins House is partnering with the Alexandria Redevelopment Housing Authority and developers Fairstead, Mill Creek Residential and The Communities Group to replace existing houses in the Samuel Madden Homes community with new affordable and workforce housing. This new mixed-use community, scheduled to be completed in 2027, will include 13,000 square feet of space for a Hopkins House preschool and workforce development program.
