ALEXANDRIA, VA — Joined by Hopkins House trustees, administrators, and community volunteers, Fairfax County Franconia District Supervisor Rodney L. Lusk visited the new Hopkins House Kingstowne Preschool Academy on August 26, 2026, as the organization prepared to welcome young scholars and families to its newest early childhood education center.
The visit provided Supervisor Lusk with an opportunity to tour the new academy, learn more about Hopkins House’s plans for serving families in the Kingstowne and greater Franconia communities, and see firsthand the classrooms and learning spaces being prepared for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and pre-kindergarten students.
Located in Fairfax County’s Franconia District Community Facility at 7130 Silver Lake Boulevard, the Kingstowne Preschool Academy represents an important expansion of Hopkins House’s longstanding commitment to high-quality early childhood education and family support in Northern Virginia.

A Historic Leader in Fairfax County
Supervisor Lusk has represented the Franconia District on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors since January 2020 and is currently serving his second term. His election was historic: Lusk became the first African American male elected to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. The Franconia District encompasses portions of Springfield, Franconia, Kingstowne, and Hybla Valley.
Lusk brought decades of public service experience to elected office. Before joining the Board of Supervisors, he spent approximately three decades as a Fairfax County employee.
A native Virginian and graduate of the University of Virginia, Lusk has lived in the Franconia District for more than 25 years. His current leadership responsibilities include chairing the Board of Supervisors’ Safety and Security Committee, serving as vice chair of both its Health and Human Services Committee and Housing Committee, and serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.

A New Partnership for Early Learning in Kingstowne
The Kingstowne Preschool Academy expands Hopkins House’s early childhood education presence in Fairfax County and strengthens the organization’s ability to serve families in one of Northern Virginia’s growing communities. It joins the organization’s James L. & Juliette McNeil Preschool Academy, located in southeastern Fairfax County, just north of Fort Belvoir, further extending Hopkins House’s reach and impact across the county.
The new Kingstowne academy will provide children with a nurturing, developmentally appropriate learning environment while giving working families access to dependable early care and education. Its opening also builds upon Hopkins House’s broader partnership with Fairfax County and its commitment to ensuring that quality early learning opportunities are available to families across all income levels.
