Board Chair Delivers Strong Message to City Council

March 16, 2016 05:21 PM
Hopkins House Board Chair, Julie N. Jakopic, delivered strong remarks at Alexandria City Council public hearing regarding the school district's request for $11 million in fiscal 2017 to open a pre-k center for Head Start and Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) children.
Speaking on behalf of Hopkins House, while expressing support for full funding of the school district's proposed budget, she expressed "serious and frankly, grave concerns about putting 400 low-income 4-year olds in a single building" as the school district is proposing.
Jakopic's remarks during the hearing were preceded by written remarks sent earlier in the day to council members.  Click link to view Jakopic at hearing (enter 02:24:04 in "Go to" field): webcast.
