The Hopkins House Preschool Academy is a true "school." Our focus, in addition to offering a safe-haven for the children, is educating and preparing them for exceptional achievement in kindergarten and beyond.
At the Hopkins House Preschool Academy we value families and the central role they play as first teachers of their children; we value age-appropriate teaching methods founded on best practices and implemented by well-educated and trained educators; and, we value activities in the classroom that allow children to explore, experiment, imitate, ask questions and be questioned.

Our students come from many walks of life and are encouraged to challenge our staff to give them an optimal education. Hopkins House Helen Day Preschool Academy has a highly degreed teaching staff who use intentional practices to individualize our curriculum to challenge each student to do and develop into his/her personal best.
We provide a safe nurturing environment where our infants are provided with stimulating sensory experiences which prepare them for mastery of later developmental skills and tasks. Our toddlers are provided with expanded motor development opportunities, social interaction, self-help skills, and a print rich environment. These skills carry over into preschool, Jr. K prep and K prep where we more rigorously focus on cognitive development (math, science, social studies and language and literacy development) as the children prepare to enter kindergarten.

The Helen Day Preschool Academy only offers tours on Tuesday mornings from 9:30-11:30am. You are welcome to sign up to take a tour; however the Helen Day Preschool Academy is at capacity. We recommend that you call the Academy Principal to discuss the waiting list. Please click on the green box to the left to schedule a tour.
The Helen Day Preschool Academy is located in Old Town Alexandria at the corner of N. Payne and Princess Streets. The preschool academy accepts children 6 weeks to 5 years of age. It is open from 7am to 6pm Monday through Friday.

Coming from I-495 South/I-95 South:
Cross the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge.
Take Exit 177B toward S. Patrick St.

Take exit 177A-177B to U.S. 1 toward Alexandria/Fort Belvoir.

Coming from Washington, D.C. and Arlington:
From US-1 South (Jefferson Davis Highway) head south to Old Town Alexandria.
In Old Town, Jefferson David Highway becomes N. Henry Street.
