Faced with increasing need, this year Hopkins House expects to spend more than $400,000 providing scholarships to help low-resourced working and military families afford the cost of tuition at its highly regarded preschool academy -- the highest level since the organization began providing scholarships more than a decade ago.

Hopkins House Trustee and Alexandria Citycouncilman Justin Wilson proposed $420,000 in additional funding to help reduce the list of children from low-resourced families on the city's Child Care Fee Subsidy Program.

Hopkins House kept up pressure on the Alexandria City Council during a public hearing at City Hall on April 16 where council members are deliberating a proposal from the Alexandria City Public Schools to move its at-risk preschoolers into a “Pre-K Center” in order to relieve overcrowding in school buildings.​
