The Walt Disney Company is donating equipment to Hopkins House to build a community playground at its new Innovative Preschool Academy in Herndon, Virginia. The community playground, to be dedicated in memory of Walt Disney employee and Herndon resident, Don Flynn, will be built by volunteers.

Hopkins House announced plans today for the celebration of its 75th anniversary. Founded in 1939, this year Hopkins House marks 75 years of continuous, uninterrupted educational programs for children, youths and families. The organization plans a three day series of events and activities to mark the occasion.

Volunteer Alexandria named Hopkins House President J. Glenn Hopkins 2014 Nonprofit Leader of the Year. The award will be presented at the 16th annual Alexandria Business Philanthropy Summit on Wednesday, May 7th, 7:30 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria. The summit will be keynoted by business pioneer, Good360 Board Chair and former Hewlett-Packard Company CEO, Carly Fiorina.

This month, Hopkins House launches a new ad campaign to promote its preschool academies. The campaign includes a television commercial featuring dancing children and staff. Next month, Hopkins House will open a new preschool academy in Herndon, Virginia. The organization already operates two preschool academies, one in the City of Alexandria and the other in Fairfax Country, Virginia.

In its "Return on Investment: Alexandria Nonprofit Impact Report", the Alexandria Council of Human Services Organizations (ACHSO) shows that, in return for the $2 million nonprofits receive in grants from the City government, they attract $3.3 billion in revenue, spend $182 million locally, employ 2,057 individuals and pay them $60 million in salaries and wages, and provide more than 100,000 services to City residents annually. The report was partly funded by Hopkins House.

Hopkins House is joining with other local nonprofits in a one day, online push for charitable donations on Wednesday, April 9. With a goal to raise money for its Children's Scholarship Fund which helps the children of low-resourced and military families attend its preschool academy, Hopkins House seeks to raise $10,000 in donations.
