This month, Hopkins House launches a new ad campaign to promote its preschool academies. The campaign includes a television commercial featuring dancing children and staff. Next month, Hopkins House will open a new preschool academy in Herndon, Virginia. The organization already operates two preschool academies, one in the City of Alexandria and the other in Fairfax Country, Virginia.

In its "Return on Investment: Alexandria Nonprofit Impact Report", the Alexandria Council of Human Services Organizations (ACHSO) shows that, in return for the $2 million nonprofits receive in grants from the City government, they attract $3.3 billion in revenue, spend $182 million locally, employ 2,057 individuals and pay them $60 million in salaries and wages, and provide more than 100,000 services to City residents annually. The report was partly funded by Hopkins House.

Hopkins House will hold an open house on Saturday, April 19 from 10 am to 3 pm, for parents and the public to tour its newest preschool, the Innovative Preschool Academy in Herndon, Virginia.

Hopkins House is joining with other local nonprofits in a one day, online push for charitable donations on Wednesday, April 9. With a goal to raise money for its Children's Scholarship Fund which helps the children of low-resourced and military families attend its preschool academy, Hopkins House seeks to raise $10,000 in donations.

Today, the Hopkins House Trustees announced their 2014 Legislative Support Agenda which calls on state and local political leaders to maintain government funding for child care in Virginia. "Without subsidies to meet market prices," the Trustees said in a statement accompanying the Agenda, "low-income, working families may not be able to access the quality child care and early childhood education that helps young children to arrive at kindergarten prepared and ready to learn."

The study, by the U.S. Department of HHS, was based on surveys completed by more than 10,000 early childhood care providers in 2012 and provides the first thorough picture of the early care and education workforce in two decades. Understanding and improving the early care and education workforce is essential because these providers not only support working parents, but also help educate and care for children during the most rapid period of brain development – from birth to five years old.
